China launches new space energy alliances with focus on perovskite and tandem PV

China’s solar and clean energy industry has launched two new industry alliances focused on space-based energy technologies, announced at SNEC 2026 in Shanghai. These developments underline growing interest in combining photovoltaics, energy storage, aerospace technology and satellite infrastructure - with perovskite and tandem solar technologies emerging as key enablers.

The newly launched Space Energy Development Alliance brings together members from the solar, energy storage, hydrogen, computing, charging infrastructure and aerospace sectors. Founding organizations include satellite company GalaxySpace, Kunshan GCL Photovoltaic Materials, the Yangtze River Delta Solar PV Technology Innovation Center, Shanghai Tianfu Interstellar Energy Technology, Shenzhen Aerospace New Source Technology and others. The alliance’s goal is to promote collaboration between the space and renewable energy industries and to support the development of future space-based energy technologies, where next‑generation high‑efficiency PV – including perovskite and tandem architectures – is expected to play an important role.

 

In parallel, JA Solar and several partners announced the Space Energy Technology Ecosystem Alliance, which includes Saiwu Technology, Jiangsu Jiejiawei Innovation Intelligent Equipment, CGC Certification Centre and multiple research institutions. Saiwu Technology is active in advanced polymer materials and has recently commercialized luminescent down‑shifting films designed specifically for perovskite tandem solar modules, signaling growing industrial interest in perovskite-based device optimization. Jiangsu Jiejiawei, a photovoltaic equipment manufacturer, has highlighted the potential of perovskite solar cells beyond conventional power plants, including building-integrated PV (BIPV), portable energy systems and wearable devices.
