Denmark-based FOM Technologies has signed a joint development agreement for perovskite materials research, pairing its slot-die coating platforms with an industrial partner the company has left undisclosed.
Under the agreement, FOM will bring its slot-die coating technology together with the partner's own expertise and application area, with the stated aim of commercializing perovskite materials. The company is careful to note that the agreement carries no guarantee that commercial products will emerge from the collaboration, or that it will generate revenue.
FOM was spun out of the roll-to-roll materials and process research lab at the Technical University of Denmark, and sells slot-die coating tools spanning lab-scale research systems through to pilot lines - its sheet-to-sheet alphaSC platform and the larger moduloR2R system among them. The company is a participant in the Hanwha Q Cells-coordinated PEPPERONI project on perovskite-silicon tandem pilot manufacturing, and in SuPerTandem, which targets roll-to-roll production of flexible all-perovskite tandem modules. FOM is also part of a three-year, $4 million DOE-backed project aimed at developing industrial manufacturing processes for large-area perovskite tandem panels at Hanwha Q Cells' US facilities.
