Guangdong Jiuan Intelligent Technology, a Guangzhou-based maker of video surveillance and IoT hardware, has broken ground on the Jiuan Optics Third-Generation Photovoltaic and Intelligent Vision Industrialization Project, a roughly RMB 1.02 billion (about US$152 million) facility that includes an approximately RMB 120 million (about US$18 million) investment in perovskite solar photovoltaic technology.
The project marks a diversification beyond Jiuan's existing surveillance-camera and IoT hardware business, which the company has built since its founding in 2007. Alongside the perovskite solar segment, the facility will house optical component production supporting surveillance cameras and the industrialization of AI vision large-scale models.
According to the company, the site is intended to function as an integrated "five-in-one" smart IoT industrial base, combining hardware R&D and manufacturing, IoT software development, optical component production, AI vision model industrialization, and perovskite solar technology application under one roof.
The move reflects a broader pattern among Chinese electronics and hardware manufacturers of adding perovskite solar production alongside existing manufacturing lines, rather than perovskite solar being developed only by dedicated solar specialists.
