High-performance film specialist i-Components has shared that it has supplied barrier film samples for perovskite solar cells to companies in Japan and China.
i-Components is pushing for mass production of products for perovskite solar cells by leveraging the experience it has built up in barrier films for displays. i-Components said it has supplied barrier film samples for perovskite solar cells to about 30 companies so far, without disclosing customer names, citing non-disclosure agreements. i-Components plans to expand supply by upgrading product specifications to meet each client's requirements.
The company is also investing in barrier film facilities, having said in June that it would invest 5.5 billion won in barrier film equipment. According to the company, growing competition to commercialize perovskite solar cells is driving more sample requests from global companies, and it intends to strengthen its R&D capabilities and supply capacity through joint development with customers to establish an early position in the market.
