Nippon Sheet Glass (NSG) is targeting perovskite PVs, aiming to position itself as a key materials supplier through the sale of ultra‑thin glass substrates, cover glass, and functional coatings.
NSG will focus on making substrates for glass and tandem PSCs.
NSG President Munehiro Hosonuma called it vital for the company to capture a big market including large-scale solar farms. NSG still makes 90% of its sales from glass products, even as rivals such as Japan's AGC have diversified into pharmaceuticals and electronic materials
The foray into perovskite cells using technology developed by British subsidiary Pilkington is a way in which NSG is trying to develop high-value-added materials.
