Kyocera Communication Systems Co. (KCCS), a Kyocera Group company, has begun installing film-type perovskite solar cells at six public facilities across Japan, marking a step forward in real-world deployment of the technology.
The projects span two regions and local governments. In Shiga Prefecture, film-type perovskite modules will be installed at Hachiman Technical High School, Moriyama Kita High School and the Lake Biwa Museum. In Fukuoka City, systems will be deployed at Takamiya Junior High School, Oiji Elementary School and Haranishi Elementary School.
The installations will use film-type perovskite solar cells supplied by Sekisui Solar Film. These lightweight, flexible modules are designed for sites where conventional silicon panels are difficult to install due to load-bearing limits or structural constraints. The projects are being implemented under a Japanese Environment Ministry subsidy program aimed at supporting model projects for the social implementation of perovskite solar cells, as part of Japan’s broader decarbonization strategy.
KCCS was selected for its ability to provide a full, one-stop solution covering system design, procurement, construction and maintenance, including installation of perovskite PV technology. The company says it plans to continue expanding clean energy deployment and to offer integrated services for future perovskite solar projects, from installation through long-term operation and maintenance.
