Microquanta unveils 26%-efficient colored perovskite-silicon tandem BIPV modules

Chinese perovskite PV company Microquanta has introduced a new series of perovskite-silicon tandem modules at a recent exhibition in Germany, targeting building‑integrated PV (BIPV) façade applications.

The new MQ‑α² products combine Microquanta’s four‑terminal perovskite-silicon tandem architecture with architect‑oriented colored finishes designed for façades. According to the company, the tandem structure is intended to compensate for the efficiency losses that typically occur when solar modules are modified for aesthetic purposes, allowing higher energy yields than conventional decorative BIPV panels.

 

Unlike many BIPV offerings that rely on third‑party colored glass, Microquanta reportedly performs the coloring process in‑house. This is said to enable a broad palette of colors and surface appearances tailored to project specifications. The company is initially showcasing a marble‑effect façade design, with the same approach expected to support a wider range of visual styles. The current modules use TOPCon silicon cells in a four‑terminal configuration, but the design is said to be compatible with other silicon technologies.

Microquanta describes the MQ‑α² series as a commercial product rather than a prototype and says it is already in talks with project developers for upcoming BIPV installations. The modules are positioned for the premium BIPV segment, where aesthetics, customization and integration into the building envelope can be more critical than minimum module cost.

The series is reported to reach a module efficiency of 26% and to cover a power range of roughly 65 W to 165 W, depending on size and configuration. Microquanta backs the product with a 25‑year linear power output warranty and a 12‑year product/workmanship guarantee. The stated degradation profile includes an initial 2% performance drop in the first year followed by 0.7% annual degradation, with at least 80% of the original power output guaranteed after 25 years of operation.

The MQ‑α² modules are rated for front and rear static loads of 2,400 Pa and have reportedly passed hail impact testing with 25 mm hailstones at velocities around 23 m/s. The products are designed for systems operating at up to 1,500 V and carry a rated current of about 15 A. Microquanta also highlights that module dimensions, electrical characteristics and visual finishes can be customized on a project basis.

Microquanta, headquartered in Hangzhou, China, is among the early commercial developers of perovskite photovoltaics. It recently reported a certified efficiency of 21.86% for an 810 cm² perovskite module and continues to work toward gigawatt‑scale production capacity at a new line in Quzhou, Zhejiang province. The new colored tandem BIPV modules add an architect‑focused façade product to its growing portfolio of commercial perovskite deployments.
