New Time outlines roadmap for perovskite solar cell production in Italy

According to recent reports, Italian company New Time has announced a four-phase plan to advance perovskite solar cell production in Italy. The roadmap was presented following a strategic meeting held in Forlì, in the Emilia-Romagna region. In late 2025, it was reported that Italian architectural solutions company New Time is working with China's Huasun to bring perovskite panel production to Italy.

During the first year, New Time plans to focus on refining the perovskite formula and identifying stabilizing materials to improve performance and durability. The second phase will introduce limited-scale production aimed at obtaining product certification. In the third year, the company intends to establish a full industrial manufacturing solution, followed by large-scale production in the fourth year. Pilot-scale output is expected within three years.

To enable the transition from research to manufacturing, New Time will repurpose existing industrial facilities and utilize internal investment. The company stated that funding is already underway, primarily through the reinvestment of profits dedicated to innovation and research activities.

New Time also noted that the current cost of perovskite modules remains high due to unoptimized production processes and ongoing material developments. The project’s main objective is to enhance cost competitiveness with established photovoltaic technologies while improving efficiency and stability.

The Forlì meeting brought together researchers from Italian and Dutch institutions, including the Italian National Research Council (CNR), the University of Bari Aldo Moro, and Delft University of Technology. Discussions focused on defining operational stages and setting up frameworks for knowledge and technology exchange.
