UtmoLight unveils high-strength and ultra-light perovskite solar modules

UtmoLight has introduced a new series of solar modules at SNEC 2026 in Shanghai, marking a shift toward application-focused product design rather than purely scaling efficiency and size. The launch includes two distinct modules engineered to tackle durability and deployment challenges that have limited broader adoption of perovskite technology.

The new lineup features the Chuangshi S2, a high-strength module designed for demanding outdoor conditions, and the Chuangshi S1, an ultra-lightweight solution aimed at distributed and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV). Together, the products reflect a growing emphasis on tailoring perovskite modules to real-world operating environments.

The Chuangshi S2 module spans 2.81 m² and delivers a rated output of 500 W. It incorporates a double-glass structure with 3.2 mm tempered glass, enabling it to withstand front-side loads of up to 5,400 Pa. This makes it suitable for installations exposed to strong winds, heavy snowfall, and hail. UtmoLight developed the module in response to feedback from earlier deployments, where mechanical stress and long-term reliability emerged as critical concerns. To address these issues, the company adapted its manufacturing approach, combining tempered-glass encapsulation with its Jichuang+ platform, which optimizes layer structures and deposition techniques for improved robustness and performance.

The module has also received certification from TÜV Rheinland, confirming its ability to endure high mechanical stress, including front and rear static loads of 5,400 Pa and 2,400 Pa respectively, as well as hail impact tests using 45 mm ice balls at high velocity.

In contrast, the Chuangshi S1 targets applications where weight is a limiting factor. Measuring 0.72 m², the module uses an ultra-thin double-glass configuration (1.1 mm + 1.1 mm), resulting in a total thickness of just 2.6 mm and a weight of approximately 4 kg - over 60% lighter than conventional panels. This design enables installation using adhesives rather than traditional mounting hardware, reducing system complexity and minimizing roof penetration risks. The S1 is positioned for use in distributed PV systems, lightweight rooftops, BIPV, and mobile energy solutions.

Both modules are produced using UtmoLight’s vertically integrated manufacturing platform, which spans materials development, large-area coating, and encapsulation. The company continues to focus on scaling production and validating long-term outdoor performance as key steps toward commercialization. Its gigawatt-scale facility in Wuxi, which reached full process integration in late 2024, previously demonstrated a 2.8 m² module with 450 W output and 16.1% efficiency. Moving forward, UtmoLight is targeting mass-production efficiencies of 20% as it transitions from pilot to large-scale manufacturing.
