China-based QD developer Zhijing Nanotech demonstrated its perovskite-QD film (PQDF) at Displayweek 2018. The company showcased a 55" LCD TV that uses the film to convert the blue LED color to a white background.

Zhijing Nanotech says that its low-cost PQDF can be used to achieve a high 110%+ NTSC color gamut and a high efficiency.

Switzerland-based Avantama demonstrated its perovskite quantum dots at Displayweek 2018. QDs are currently used as color down-conversion films to turn the emission of blue LEDs to white light.

Currently used QDs are either Cadmium-based or Indium-based, and Avantama claims that its pQDs outperform both technologies by a wide margin (3X CdSe, 12x InP), which means that using these will enable much more efficient QD-LCDs. Of course pQDs contain lead, but the amount is very small and it is way below the thresholds required by the EU and other countries.

UK-based Ossila provides components, equipment and materials to enable faster and smarter organic electronics research and discovery. Ossila provides both materials and equipment for perovskite researchers, and the company's lead perovskite scientist, Dr. Jonathan Griffin, was kind enough to answer a few questions we had for him.

Dr. Griffin holds nearly a decade of experience working in organic photovoltaic research and over 5 years of working with perovskites. At Ossila, Jonathan works on technical support for several material ranges, including perovskites, organic photovoltaics, graphene and other 2-D materials. He is also involved in the development of new test equipment and product ranges. Prior to this, he worked in a postdoctoral research position at the University of Sheffield.

Australia-based GreatCell Solar, formerly known as Dyesol, was founded to develop, scale-up and commercialize 3rd generation solar PV technologies, and currently the company focuses on perovskite solar cell (PSC) materials and technologies.

GreatCell's Managing Director, Richard Caldwell kindly agreed to talk with Perovskite-Info about the Company's current technology and future plans - and his views on the perovskite market.

We are happy to announce a new Metalgrass knowledge hub, MicroLED-Info.com. This new site will focus on Micro-LED display technology and its future market. MicroLED is quickly becoming a promising future display technology.

Many expect the first Micro-LED devices to hit the market in the very near future, with first applications in the wearable market - and also in HUDs and HMDs. MicroLED promise great performance, very high efficiency and brightness - but of course there are still many technical challenges ahead.

Leading simulation and measurement tool provider Fluxim and Perovskite-Info have teamed up to offer a 20% discount on Fluxim's large-area PV simulation software LAOSS.

LAOSS is a software tool that simulates large area semiconductor devices (PV and OLED), taking into account the voltage drop in the electrodes due to important resistive effects when the size of the device increases. LAOSS facilitates electrode layout optimization and material choice, which can save substantial time and resources. Any material class of PV devices can be modeled in a few clicks, from emerging technologies like perovskite and OPV to established Si or thin film technology.

On May 10-11, IdTechEx will host its annual Printed Electronics Europe event that will focus on the commercialization of printed, organic and flexible electronics. The Perovskite-Info team will visit this event, so if anyone wishes to schedule a meeting - now is a great time to do so!
